Ponte Vedra: A Good Draw

Site Selection consultants from seven corporations visited St. Johns County and were taken to PGA Tour headquarters in Ponte Vedra Beach. Ponte Vedra beach club area was included in the visit for the site selection consultants mainly because the Economic Development Council wanted to showcase two national headquarters that are located there, the PGA Tour and ATP Tour. The Council wanted to make sure that site selection consultants realized that they have those assets here and, of course, the Council wanted to showcase the lifestyle. Ponte Vedra is a good draw.

Club Class Jacksonville

Great courses and golf lore together make the Jacksonville area the most crowded and rewarding corner of the endless fairway that is Florida, and not just for duffers. The pro tours, schedules, records and business are run from the PGA Tour headquarters at Sawgrass and LPGA’s home offices and two more courses in Daytona Beach. You can try the shot yourself at a 132-yard replica island green at the World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine.

In January and February, when Yankees head down to Miami and Naples for warmth, greens fees in north Florida drop along with the temperatures. Now is the time to grab a windbreaker and head north to play golf with the greatest. Jacksonville Beach Clubs greens fees aren’t cheap, but $500-a-night package deals to play tour-quality courses still beat a country club initiation.

Choices of golf schools and courses here seem endless. The Ponte Vedra Plantation has 58 bunkers and on 16 out of the 18 holes water comes into play. TPC added a second course to Sawgrass. The Hall of Fame has two, one named for Sam Snead and Gene Sarazen and another for Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus. There are dozens more across the area, including 160 holes on Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach, another early stop for winter swells of the early 20th century.

Walter Hagen, Maureen Orcutt and other greats walked these holes and live on at the Hall of Fame. Lockers there are stuffed with clubs, badges and old souvenirs in a massive interactive archive that draws a quarter-million visitors a year. The Hall remembers inductees like Dwight Eisenhower (2009) and Carl Shute (2008) and lets visitors try their aim on an 18-hole putting course and that island green or chuckle at “Shanks for the Memories,” the new exhibit on Bob Hope.

First Coast - First Class Architecture

Jacksonville Beach clubs
Early America meets the modern world at the Ponte vedra plantation. You will fall in love with the exquisite architecture and innovative style of luxurious new homes in Ponte Vedra.

Real estate developers in Ponte Vedra have always aspired to offer exclusivity to their clientele. This exclusivity is evident in the architecture of Ponte vedra homes.

History of Jacksonville and its pre-renaissance architecture have always inspired the real estate developers to incorporate intricate design into modern architecture. This fusion of old and modern architectural delights is clearly visible in many of the Jacksonville Beach clubs. The most impressive and inspiring architecture amongst them are the GEORGIAN style, ART DECO style and CAPE COD style to name just a few.

GEORGIAN style

With a name befitting a king, this style dominated British colonies in the 1700s. Side-gabled roofs, two or three stories and brick construction are typical. Other Georgian trademarks include paired chimneys, a decorative crown over the front door and row of windows across the second story. Among the most long-lived styles of American building form, it’s still popular for new townhouses or suburban homes.

ART DECO style

Geometric decorative elements and a vertically oriented design are just two traits of Art Deco architecture. Flat roofs, metal window casements, and smooth stucco walls with rectangular cut-outs adorn the exteriors. Later additions include curved corners, glass-block windows, and a boat-like appearance. Art Deco was the first widely popular style in U.S. to break with revivalist tradition.

CAPE COD style

With origins as old as the United States, modern Cape Cods offer a small, uncomplicated shape (square or rectangular) with one or 1.5 stories and steeply pitched, gabled roofs. Dormers and shutters are typical and siding is usually clapboard or brick.

Watch out for this royal designs and architecture while buying your new home.
